History

CESI was formed by two entrepreneurs widely considered pioneers in the energy industry, with experience raising hundreds of millions of dollars of private and public funding, working both for and inside major utilities, and leading professional societies and industry trade groups:

David S. Dayton, founder and chairman, has been President of the National Association of Energy Services Companies and on the Executive Committee of the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP). He was a founder and president of Hospital Efficiency Corporation (renamed Select Energy Services when acquired by Northeast Utilities); Energía Global International (acquired by the Italian utility Enel and the largest renewable-energy supplier in Central America); and the nonprofit Technical Development Corporation (which spun off a dozen nonprofit firms innovating in criminal justice and job creation). He also served in the laboratories and on the Corporate Staff of Raytheon. He holds a BSEE degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and an MBA from the Kellogg School, Northwestern University.

Stephen J. Morgan, President, serves on the Board of the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE) and has been Treasurer of NAESCO. He was a principal in the development of early energy-efficiency prototypes at Citizens Energy, and led the country’s largest multifamily housing (MFH) market practice as Vice President of AMERESCO. He is nationally known for his work in residential and low-income energy efficiency and is the primary author of MFH proposals that have won hundreds of millions in competitive funding. Dr. Morgan holds Bachelors and Masters degrees from Harvard University and a PhD in Policy, Planning and Administration from Brandeis University.
